As well as providing the complete web design package, we specialise in providing advanced website features. Whether you need interactive video, customised surveys with database support or social networking tools - we can help. We also provide zero carbon hosting at the same price that most companies charge for normal hosting solutions. Plus, our servers actually use renewable electricity, guaranteeing zero emissions, unlike most 'green' hosting companies who use non-renewable energy and then buy carbon offsets. View our web design services at www.myacorn.com or contact ian@myacorn.com to discuss your requirements. |

February 2011Ian has been invited to give a workshop on Geographic Information Systems at the annual Student Conference on Conservation Science in March. Working with spatial data: How to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in your research All conservation data have a spatial element, but often researchers do not make full use of the tools and techniques that are available for processing geographic data. In this workshop we will explore powerful GIS software that is available free of charge, as well as discussing some of the more expensive alternatives. We'll cover the fundamentals that you need to understand when working with map and survey data. Finally we will explore sources of geographic data, including the availability of satellite and aerial imagery as well as the best techniques for acquiring our own GIS data through ground surveys and techniques for remote sensing. |
